Not really a full match report today, just some reflections on the game.
Although well beaten today there were some real positive moments for the boys to take from today's game. A very dominant scrum is a great foundation to build a rugby team on, and we were pushing the Harpenden 6 around all over the place. Once we learn to harness this platform it will become a real weapon for us.
Team spirit and attitude today looked strong. Credit to Stan's captaincy on this front, everyone kept their heads up and played for each other which the coaches recognised and were very proud of.
When we string a consecutive phases of play together, we are a very dangerous side who have the ability to score in a variety of ways. We were excellent value for our two tries today and weren't far off a couple more.
Harpenden though were very well drilled. They identified our lack of width and punished it with some brilliant support play and some very well placed kicks. Width in defence and attack is something that's been identified by us as coaches to address and we will be working hard on it for the rest of the season.
Our conversion rate of line breaks to tries was not where it needs to be - this is another thing we'll be discussing and planning sessions to address.
As a coaching group we were proud of the efforts that everyone put in today, we knew it would be a test and so it proved. Smiling faces at the end, and all looking dapper in their training tops told a story of a team who had given its all.
Lastly a special shout out to Zac, Gillie and Hugh who travelled over to support - great to see you come and cheer your team mates on.
Please show this to the boys if possible.
