A very enjoyable morning at St Neots, where we scored 10 tries in a 50-5 victory.
Strong team performance across the board, with forwards and backs showing improvements and growth from previous weeks,
Max M led the forwards from the front with his usual dynamism, with strong driving contributions from Freddie G and Joel, and impressive forward mobility from Jacob- hats off to Edward for his flexibility in playing forward and back today.
In the backs, Max C and Freddie R were solid and both showed invention and attacking intent from scrum half ; Hugo as a vocal captain and fly off orchestrated the backline well, and made a number of key line breaks.
Charlie’s invention, intelligent line breaks and strong running bagged him his hatful of tries.
Jax shone throughout and was the coaches Man of the Match with intelligent line breaks from full back, hitting good lines, alongside excellent positioning with some key defensive tackles,
Caden and Finley proactive in defence and attack.
Tries were scored by:
Charlie 5
Jacob
Joel
Hugo
Ollie
Caden
One more point - we consistently tell the boys to respect the referee’s decision making at all times as a key rugby value, so it would be hypocritical for coaches to do so - let’s just say today’s ref was overly officious and quick to penalise some very fleeting and marginal situations, where other refs may have given some guidance and allowed play to continue.
The boys reacted well to it, and didn’t let it affect them. ?
If we are to take a lesson from it, we should heed that the RFU are giving a clear steer that tackles must be below sternum, some referees will act very strictly on that, so we will continue to focus on optimum tackle height. ?
