#Bonus Point Win

Match Summary – Hitchin vs. Datchworth
Today, our goals for the match were clear: secure a win and score four or more tries to earn the valuable bonus point, which could prove crucial in the league standings as the season progresses.
For our regular supporters, you may have noticed some players in different positions. Despite the changes, everyone performed excellently, showcasing the squad’s high level of skill and versatility.
The first-team pitch at Datchworth was ours for the day, and despite the cold, wet weather, it was in reasonable condition. We knew a muddy, challenging game lay ahead, especially for the forwards, led by Captain Olivia ZN.

Standout Performances: Firstly, a big congratulations to Carys E, who made her debut as a Prop. She played with the maturity of a seasoned forward, making significant ground with excellent runs and impressive handling in tough conditions.
The scoreboard got off to a flying start, with Isabelle W breaking through the defence just under two minutes into the game. Imogen D, stepping up for the conversion despite being unfamiliar with the role, tried a drop kick (due to a missing tee) but just missed the target. However, Kayla A quickly crossed the line for a second try, and with a successful conversion from Imogen, we earned the extra points.
The team continued to build on this momentum, with tries from Pheobe F, Tawana M, Leya B, and Maddison P. Each player demonstrated incredible determination and strength, pushing through Datchworth’s defence to score.
The team had settled into a solid rhythm, confident in their supporting play and willing to take on the defence head-on. Although some players were out of their usual positions, good communication and teamwork meant this didn’t hinder our performance.
A further try from Leya B and a successful conversion from Imogen D brought us to 41 points after a fast-paced 22 minutes of play. Kayla A, with her impressive footwork and speed, took us beyond 42 points, securing our league achievement for the day.

Post-League Friendly Hitchin Babas vs Datchworth Babas: After agreeing with the coaches to play on with a shorten the second half, the team continued the game with a more relaxed, friendly approach. In this half, Datchworth made an initial strong push, with Pheobe F charging at our line and helping them score their first tries of the day, bringing the score to 5-0. followed by another quick push and 10-0 on the board. We’d shifted into “fun mode” but a quick reminder behind he posts refocused the squad.
Once back in form, Kayla A broke through Datchworth’s defence to get the scoreline moving again, followed by a brilliant run from Ella M, who sprinted past several defenders to even the score.
As the final play approached, Isabelle W stepped up for the conversion, and with a roar from the spectators, she successfully put it over, giving Hitchin Babas a 10-12 victory in this second half.

Post-Match: Both teams came together in the clubhouse to enjoy a warm, hearty meal. Thanks to Datchworth for their hospitality, and congratulations to all the players who stepped up in unfamiliar positions. The team’s willingness to adapt and contribute to the 11 tries scored today earned every player the Spirit of Rugby award.
Though we’re behind on the number of Herts league games played, this result has moved us into 2nd place, with just one bonus point separating us from 1st. Well Done girls.
