Todays match started well for the Hitchin Girls with a two set plays working for us to see the pack driving over the line from a perfectly placed penalty kick and to see Izzy W drop off the back of the pack and set the ball over the line. This motivated the Fullerians team who fought hard to get the second score of the day halfway through the first half to level the score. Play continued with no clear dominance until the last few minutes of the first half when Hitchin girls tightened up on their core skills and good hands saw the ball passed switfly to Leya B finally breaking through the back line to get the score going again. Then less than 2 minutes later Lucy B ran around the edge darted infield and found sufficient gaps through the Fullerians to break through and stride away to score between the posts on Halftime, with Poppy J securing the extra 2 points.
Fullerians started the second half with immediate impact with a replacement winger getting across the line less that one minute in. They had changed several players and the Hitchin Girls needed to adapt to the changing side, fighting hard, the girls defended well, with some excellent tackling from our newest player Poppy S in her first ever run out. The Girls repelling Fullerians repeatedly, but rarely managing to get play on our own terms. Fullerians scoring again 10 mins in a highly physical battle seeing 2 blood injuries on the line. After stoppage time, Hitchin dug in, and made several runs forward, but were not able to convert into points, still two points up and 3 mins to go we were in the Fullerains 22 and things were looking promising to close this one out. Both teams had managed multiple turnovers at the Ruck throughout the match and play was as intense in the last few minutes as the first. In the next passages of play Fullerians capitalised on the jackle to make ground and put us on the back foot and despite some good defending until the last Fullerians were able to make the last score of the day as the seconds drew out, Finally with the 2 extra points to end the day.
